RYAN Young made a winning debut for AFC Portchester on Saturday as the Royals’ held onto second spot in the Sydenhams Premier Division with a 2-1 home win over Brockenhurst.

The vastly experienced 38-year-old goalkeeper left National League outfit Havant & Waterlooville last week in search of regular first-team football after losing his place to Ben Dudzinski.

All the key action was jammed into the second half at the Crest Finance Stadium as Dan Simmonds conjured up near identical finishes in the 66th and 68th minutes to put Portchester in the driving seat.

On 74 minutes, Brock were awarded a penalty when Young was deemed to have brought down Leon Carbayo-Borges.

Young saved the spot kick, but the referee ordered it to be retaken – a decision that enraged Royals’ Steve Ramsey who was sent off for arguing.

The second spot kick hit the post, but Young was denied a clean sheet on 80 minutes when Brock’s Mitch Speechley-Price headed in from a corner.

It ended 10 v 10 with Ronan Moore sent off for the Badgers late on.

Bashley transformed a 1-0 half-time deficit into a 2-1 home win over Shaftesbury.

Trailing to a Steve Smith header, the Foresters hit back just after the hour when midfielder Liam Farrugia left two defenders in his wake before unleashing a 25-yard net-buster.

With fit-again duo Dan Munday and Tony Rolls entering the fray, Bash pushed for a late winner.

It was Munday who scored it, sending Rockies’ keeper John Hill the wrong way from the spot after Hugh Dathan had been floored.

Steve Flynn is up to third in the Sydenhams Premier goal charts with 16 goals after netting a hat-trick in Bournemouth Poppies' 4-1 home win over Tadley Calleva.

Flynn, who added to an early Ron Frost strike, is chasing Sholing duo Lee Wort (23) and Dan Mason (22) in the race for the golden boot.

Baffins Milton Rovers proved too strong for lowly Team Solent, winning 2-0 at Test Park.

Solent - now back in bottom spot - made a strong start with Silvano Obeng thumping the goal frame, but Baffins led on 11 minutes when Jason Parish punished the hosts’ inability to deal with a cross from the right.

Two minutes later Solent were in trouble again when Harry Wedlake was upended in the area. Ashton Leigh took the Baffins penalty, but Sparks' keeper Alex Londors dived to his right to keep it out.

Early in the second half, the Portsmouth visitors struck again when Parish met Tommy Leigh's cross with a glancing header.

Late on, Tommy Leigh’s shot rebounded off the bar before Baffins sub George Root broke through only to be denied by the excellent Londors.

Three players reached milestones for Hamble Club with Ricky Bull making his 200th club appearance and Nathan Lynch and Rory Anderson reaching the 100 mark.

Thankfully the Monks did not fluff their lines on the big occasion, comfortably brushing Fareham Town aside 4-0 through Marlon Mason (2), Ben Kemplen and Richard Bridle.

Bemerton Heath Harlequins, who have re-signed Jordan Matthews, had two-goal Jack Slade to thank for their 2-1 home victory over Christchurch (Josh Kirkham).

Portland United showed their steely side to survive a late spell of pressure at high-flying Horndean and hang on for a 2-1 Five Heads Park success.

Having had Darren Watts brave header snuffed out by Alfie Lis, Portland scored the decisive goal through Ryan McKechnie. Both sides had a man dismissed in the second half.

Hamworthy United welcomed in new signing Luke Stone, but couldn’t ward off a 2-1 home defeat by Andover New Street who have winched themselves off the foot of the table.

Shane Lock and Luke Neller were on target for Street, who had outstanding goalkeeper George Baxter to thank for limiting the Hammers to just one Nathan Walker goal.
