BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club Men’s third team went goal crazy as they beat visiting Portsmouth and Southsea 12-0.

Ben Shaughnessy netted a hat-trick and JP Vout added a far post half volley as the home side led 4-0 at half time.

Basingstoke still had the upper hand in the second half.

Kyle Mcfee opening his third team account for the season with a brace, Ben Blackmore rolling back the years with a short corner strike and finding the backboard.

Greg Smith kept the average age of the scorers over 40 and taking the team to double digits with a solid finish. Charlie Elliot scored the 11th after a great solo run with Shaughnessy bagging his fifth from a short corner routine. The men’s first team lost 5-1 against Fareham IIs, with their consolation goal coming from Graham Garrett-Lang.

The second team trailed 2-1 at half-time to Salisbury as Liam Harrison scored with a well-rehearsed short corner.

The fourths lost 8-0 against Gillingham, and the fifths were up against Aldershot and Farnham V, who took the lead from the start, before Basingstoke scored two via Gareth Lloyd.

In the second half, Basingstoke had plenty of chances without success, before conceding two goals from penalty corners.

A disappointing 3-2 loss in an evenly matched game.

Basingstoke ladies first team, sponsored by KJS Solicitors started well with Catriona Bausor carving open the Brighton and Hove defence to open the scoring in the first few minutes of the game.

Moments later, Clare Griffiths showed a cool head, slipping the ball to Roxy O’Dea who calmly beat the goalkeeper from close range to score the second goal.

Accurate passing from defence provided a platform for great interplay between the midfield and the forwards, with Catriona Bausor bursting through from midfield for the third goal.

In the second half, Brighton tried to up their game. However, they could not break Basingstoke’s defence.

Kirsty Kent scored twice from two penalty corners.

Fiona Parker was rewarded with a goal from close range by managing to squeeze the ball past the goalkeeper. The game finished with an impressive 6-0 win to Basingstoke.

The seconds faced a tricky game against City of Portsmouth.

Basingstoke’s first goal came Sarah Mainprise with a controlled strike finding the back of the net.

The second goal came from a stunning pass up the pitch by Tessa Cowley to Michelle Rounding who neatly slotted the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs.

The thirds travelled to the Isle of Wight to take on the free scoring, league leaders on a sandy pitch at Ryde.

The islanders quickly showed their early season form and were two up within the first 15 minutes.

With Basingstoke struggling to find their form, the first half ended with a 4-0 lead to the Isle of Wight.

The thirds stepped up their game in the second half, but to no avail, offering little in front of goal.

In the end, Isle of Wight won 7-0.

The ladies fourth recorded a deserved 4-2 victory against Petersfield.

The fifths were up against the formidable Hamble IIs, showing resilience and teamwork in an evenly matched game. Basingstoke’s first goal came from Katie Thomson, the second coming from Megan Payne and the third from Sue Pett.

The second half saw Basingstoke leading 3-2, up until the last few seconds, when Hamble managed to score their third goal. The game ended with 3-3 draw.

The sixths faced Yateley IV and started well, concluding the first half 3-1 up.

In the second half Yateley tried to fight back.

Basingstoke’s spirits remained high ending the game with a 5-2 win.

A hat trick for Izzy Hussey and other goals coming from Luci McCallum and Tricia Flynn.

The under-12 ladies won 2-1 against Camberley and Farnborough, with goals coming from Freya Leech and Kirsten Halewood.
