CHERRIES are sweating on the fitness of striker Joshua King after he curtailed training with Norway yesterday due to an ankle problem.

The frontman sustained the injury during Saturday’s 1-0 UEFA Nations League victory over Slovenia in Oslo.

Speaking to Norwegian publication Aftenposten, a translation of the 26-year-old’s quotes said: “Somebody fell over my leg against Slovenia. I got hurt but continued to play and didn’t notice much. But a few hours later it stiffened in my ankle.

“I tried to jog during training but I would not risk making it worse, so I had to leave the gym.”

King is set to be assessed ahead of Norway’s home fixture against Bulgaria tonight (7.45pm).

Should the ankle injury persist, he could be a doubt for Cherries’ clash with Southampton at Vitality Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

The Dorset club’s record top-flight scorer, King struck twice during the emphatic 4-0 victory over Watford last time out.

He has scored four times this season, with goals also coming against Everton and Leicester.

Formerly of Manchester United and Blackburn, the frontman has won 36 senior caps for Norway and netted 12 times.
