SHOLING and Lymington Town will fly the Sydenhams Wessex League flag into the FA Cup second qualifying round.

Both clubs triumphed at the second time of asking tonight with Sholing prevailing 1-0 at Hamworthy United and Lymington making the long trip to Lydney Town worthwhile with a 2-1 success.

After battling out a 0-0 draw on Saturday, Sholing's replay was another tight-fought affair.

It took a 67th-minute own goal to settle it when Marvin McLean’s teasing cross was turned in by the Hammers at the near post.

The Boatmen will now travel to Slough Town of the National League South.

Lymington can look forward to hosting former Football League outfit Torquay United on September 22 thanks to Jake King’s 87th-minure header from Sam House’s cross.

Ashley Jarvis had given the New Forest visitors a 54th-minute lead from the penalty spot which Lewis Thomson snuffed out, but King responded to send Lymo through to the second qualifying round for the first time ever.

It was a night of high drama at The Simplyhealth City Ground where Winchester City edged a tense tie 2-1 against higher-division Frome Town after extra-time.

Frome’s Kane Simpson and City’s Tyrell Mitford made it 1-1, just as they had on Saturday, before each side missed a penalty.

The deadlock was finally broken 19 minutes into extra time when Connor Cocklin headed home from a corner for the Citizens.

Mitford then hit the post before a floodlight failure had City fans frantically chewing their fingernails.

Mercifully the stoppage didn’t last long and yet more yet drama followed when Frome skipper Ricky Scott was sent off for a poor challenge.

Winchester held strong to book a September 22 trip to Merthyr Town.

Steve Claridge’s Salisbury are also through after coming back from behind to triumph 3-1 at Yate Town.

The Whites trailed to a 40th-minute Josh Ford goal at the break but, after Chris Shephard had levelled from the penalty spot, further goals by Jake Wannell and Lewis Benson carried them through.

There was controversy in the closing moments as both sides had two men sent off – Salisbury’s Elliot Wheeler and Darren Mullings getting their marching orders.

The Whites now travel to Weston-super-Mare.
