CHARLIE Daniels is hoping "great signing" Jack Wilshere falls short of his best when Cherries visit West Ham on Saturday.

Daniels and his team-mates head to the capital aiming to follow up their opening-day victory over Cardiff with a win against the Hammers.

Midfielder Wilshere, who made a summer switch to London Stadium on a free transfer from Arsenal, is likely to line up against Cherries where he spent a fruitful loan spell during the 2016-17 season.

But Daniels warned the 26-year-old would not be the Hammers’ only threat.

He said: “They have a lot of quality in terms of Jack Wilshere – a great signing – Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson. They have signed a lot of players and it is going to be a very tough test.

“I’m looking forward to seeing Jack. He gets a bit of stick from the media in terms of how his persona is seen but he could not be more different.

"He is such a down to earth lad and really hard working, which a lot of people do not see.

"He has been very unfortunate with his injuries but, on his day, he is a top player and one of the stars for England.

“He is probably looking to get back into the England squad. It will be good to see him but I hope he doesn’t play too well."

Wilshere featured 27 times during his loan spell with Cherries before his campaign was ended by a broken leg sustained against Tottenham.

He did not register a goal in that time but left a big impression on members of the squad and still remains in touch with many of them.

Daniels admitted he felt criticism Wilshere had received from some sections of the media and rival supporters had been unjust.

“Over the years, on the injury front and a couple of things he did in the past have stuck with him from when he was younger at Arsenal," said Daniels.

“When he was here, he played near enough the whole season.

"I think we managed him well in terms of his training load. If West Ham can do that they will be able to get the best out of him.

“He is a top guy. He is still in contact with a few of the lads here and I speak to him every now and again.

"He had another baby a few months ago so everyone congratulated him on that.

“He is looking forward to the season. He is a London boy playing for a London club so he is going to be passionate and wanting to do well. I wish him the best of luck.”
