RETURNING skipper Jesse Waller Lassen scored a brace for Team Solent at Hamworthy United – but it was all in vain.

The Students exited the FA Cup 3-2, nailed by a remarkable late fightback from the Hammers in the extra preliminary round.

Dan Cann was the hattrick hero for the Dorset side who now entertain Louis Langdown’s AFC Totton on August 25.

Solent led 2-1 at the break and it wasn’t until the 88th minute that Cann equalised with a goal set up by Eder Batista.

The tie was in its fifth minute of stoppage time when Cann swivelled before firing home a dramatic, late winner to break Solent hearts.

Olly Kershaw experienced the joy of scoring in the FA Cup as Petersfield Town pulled off a 1-0 win at Guildford City. The Rams now travel to Fleet Town.

There was good news too for Newport IW who enjoyed a 3-1 home success over Amesbury Town.

The Islanders fell behind to a Rob Owen penalty, but hit back after the break through young subs, George Holmes and Lewis Fleming, and Jared Wetherick.

To add to Amesbury’s woes they had defender George Higgins red-carded in the 79th minute.

Newport’s next Cup assignment is away at three-leagues-higher Wimborne Town on Saturday week.

Romsey Town suffered a second-half collapse to bow out of the FA Cup 4-0 at Andover New Street.

The hosts, making their first ever Cup appearance, led by a Zac Neve goal at the break – despite a promising start by Town.

Two goals inside three second-half minutes, from Neve and Shane Lock, rocked Romsey before sub Luke Neller bagged New Street’s fourth. It sets the north Hampshire club up with a trip to Moneyfields on Saturday week (August 25).

Portland United advanced thanks to a Lewis Whyton header in a 2-1 win at Clevedon Town. Alex Godfrey handed the Blues the lead in the 21st minute and Whyton extended it after he had seen his penalty saved by Connor Sidley Adams.

Clevedon’s Tyler Ashmead hit back from a corner, but Portland clung on to book a home tie against Bitton.

Fareham Town’s FA Cup interest ended early with a 2-1 home defeat by Frimley Green.

Leo Medrado and Eddie McKinlay gave the visitors breathing space before the Creeksiders’ Craig Hardy replied late on.
