AFC Stoneham's 'goals for' column has already reached double figures - and they have only played one Sydenhams Division One game!

Tim Cole's Purples took full advantage of a summer of upheaval at Andover Town with a scorching 10-1 victory at The Portway on Saturday.

It's hard to credit that, just three months ago, Andover were on the crest of a wave, finishing runners-up in the Sydenhams Premier and beating Stoneham in the final of the Russell Cotes Cup.

But the loss of key club officials and sponsorship forced them to pull out of promotion to the Southern League at the eleventh hour and they were punished with relegation instead.

With last season's thoroughbred squad having disbanded, they are now operating with a young, enthusiastic team who will doubtless improve as the season progresses.

Town were gifted the lead inside the fourth minute when Solomon Mawo took advantage of a stray Sergio Caballero pass, but that was as good as it got for the north Hampshire club as Stoneham went goal crazy, condemning Town to their biggest ever defeat.

Will Harris (2) and Caballero made it 3-1 at half-time and young sub Jo Sutherden helped himself to a five-minute hat-trick just after the hour mark.

Either side of Sutherden's treble, Harris added another brace while Cabellero, who became a father for the first time last Thursday, helped himself to a second.

Tom Hogan polished off with an excellent finish into the top right corner.

Stoneham tomorrow (Tuesday) entertain Whitchurch United in the Hampshire FA Senior Cup preliminary round. The winners will host Tadley Calleva.

*FAWLEY AFC looked doomed to Sydenhams One defeat as they trailed 2-0 at East Cowes Vics with 86 minutes gone.

But late goals by Ben Murphy and Dec Hartigan got them out of jail, wiping out two Joe Butcher strikes to salvage a 2-2 draw.

Oilers goalkeeper Lee Burch tweeted: "Great character shown by the @fawleyafc lads yesterday.

"Everything seemed to go against us on the day but to pull back a point from 2-0 away from home with less than 5 minutes to play shows the strength of the side."
