SALISBURY have goalkeeper problems ahead of the upcoming Evo-Stik Premier South campaign.

The Whites entertained a 605 crowd with an excellent 1-0 pre-season win over an AFC Bournemouth XI last night, but they did so without new 'keeper Marcus Beauchamp.

The ex-Newport County and Hungerford stopper is feared to have damaged cruciate knee ligaments in training, leaving him in danger of missing the start of the 2018/19 campaign.

Fellow keeper Charlie Searle is also on the injury list but, in Beauchamp’s absence, he played against Bournemouth and did well.

The game was decided by an early Lewis Benson goal set up by George Barker.

Reflecting on a highly satisfactory performance, manager Steve Claridge told the Whites’ official website: "Probably the most pleasing thing for me is that I look at every player and have not been disappointed by any of them so far.

“You look at the way they apply themselves, even in friendly games, you look at the work rate which is fantastic  - and perhaps, above all, the way we managed the game was maybe the best we've done since I've been at Salisbury.

"As we've got a little bit more experience in the side and the quality is better, players are more capable of taking on board information and the way we want to play.

“We had to learn lessons from last season and have tried to take in a little more quality. I think we are managing to do that and, at this stage, I couldn't ask any more from anybody.

“Having two keepers injured is probably the only disappointing thing which has come out of pre-season. We will know more (about Beauchamp) later in the week.”

The Whites are at home to Bognor Regis Town on Friday (7.45pm) Reduced admission prices apply - adults £5, seniors and students £2 and U16s free.
