BOSS Matty Holmes insists Wimborne Town are keeping calm waiting for their possible promotion to be rubber-stamped.

Magpies accepted the opportunity to step up to the newly-formed Southern League South next season – the highest level in the club’s 140-year history, writes Dan Rose.

The opportunity came after Barnsley-based Shaw Lane’s withdrawal from the Northern League Premier Division had forced a national restructure.

With Banbury United and Hednesford Town understood to have appealed decisions for them to switch from their original divisions, Holmes revealed Magpies were still waiting for the green light.

He told the (Bournemouth) Daily Echo: “We had the email to say we were promoted. At this moment in time, we are in Southern League South, which is great.

“But we have found out from the Southern League that there are appeals from Banbury and Hednesford, so we are just sitting tight.

“We are trying not to get too excited about it. If the appeals are successful it could affect our position – we could be relegated without kicking a football.

“We were told that, possibly, the appeals were being heard early this week. We are hoping to hear by Thursday or Friday what our situation is. It’s frustrating because it’s a waiting game.”

The Southern League announced fixtures for the new campaign would be revealed on Thursday, July 19.
