WIMBORNE Town are belatedly celebrating promotion to the Evo-Stik South Premier Division.

The Magpies’ hopes of playing at the higher level next season looked to have vanished when they lost the West Division play-off final on penalties to Swindon Supermarine.

But the knock-on effect of Shaw Lane’s withdrawal from the Northern League Premier Division has worked in favour of the Dorset outfit who will fill the vacancy at Step 3 of the non-League pyramid.

Banbury United will be laterally moved to the Southern League Central while Hednesford Town will switch to the Northern Premier League.

FC Romania are promoted to Step 4 (Isthmian League North), while north Hampshire outfit Fleet Town will be laterally moved to the Southern League West.

Wimborne will join county rivals Poole Town, Dorchester Town and Weymouth in the Southern League South Premier – the first time in history that all four clubs have been in the same division. Newly-promoted Salisbury are also in the mix.
