The damage was all done in the first-half, as Saints' defence wilted under pressure from Liverpool's rapid attack.
Just six minutes had passed when Wesley Hoedt failed to deal with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's through ball to gift Mo Salah possession.
Salah quickly squared to Roberto Firmino, who made no mistake from close range, firing past Alex McCarthy.
After a period of positivity from Saints, Liverpool's second goal came just before half-time, as Salah played a quick-fire one-two off Firmino to bang home to make it 2-0.
Following that, 45 minutes of stalemate ensued and Liverpool strolled away with the victory to leave Saints back in the relegation zone with 11 games to play.
