SYDENHAMS Premier title favourites Andover Town have added another attacking string to their bow.

The league leaders have signed winger/midfielder Harrison Gilkes on a dual registration from Evo-Stik South Premier outfit Slough Town.

The 24-year-old played for Andover boss Glenn Burnett at New Milton Town six years ago on 'loan' from AFC Bournemouth.

He also had a loan spell at AFC Totton and, following his release by the Cherries, played for Poole Town and Basingstoke where he linked up with his dad, Michael, of Reading fame.

Gilkes joined Slough from Basingstoke in the summer of 2016 but has had little luck as a Rebel.

He missed the whole of last season after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament in a pre-season friendly at Fleet Town.

He finally made his competitive debut for Slough in October only to suffer another injury setback.

Gilkes made his Andover debut as a second-half sub at Hamble Club last weekend, helping them fight back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.

With second-placed Blackfield also drawing, Town remain nine points clear heading into Saturday's game at Bashley.

Blackfield, voted SWL Premier club-of-the-month for December, are also on their travels to Amesbury Town.
