CHARLIE Willett hit red-hot scoring form as Lymington Town destroyed rock-bottom Petersfield Town 8-1 in the Sydenhams Premier Division.

The former Fawley man weighed in with a hat-trick as Lymo made substantial amends for a disappointing midweek defeat by Verwood Town which cost them a place in the final of the Bournemouth Senior Cup.

Jake King and Steve Walker chipped in with doubles for the New Forest club, backed by one from Sam House.

Weather permitting, the Bournemouth Senior Cup final between Verwood and Bashley will be staged at Hurn Bridge, Christchurch tomorrow (Tuesday, 7.45pm).

Neither side had an ideal build-up to the game with Verwood beaten 2-1 at home by Downton in Sydenhams One and Bashley on the wrong end of a 5-2 Premier Division scoreline at Baffins Milton Rovers.

It was the second time Baffins had ‘Bashed’ five past the Foresters the season, having thrashed them 5-0 away back in August.

Paul Morris’s men looked set to put the record straight ten minutes in when Whiteley converted a cross from ex-AFC Totton striker Dan Munday, who was back in the side after a three-month injury lay-off.

But, with Blu Boam pulling the strings on his return from holiday, Baffins went in 3-1 up at half-time thanks to Sam Woodward, Chaz Gardiner and Boam himself.

Boam then struck again with a looping header over bemused Bash 'keeper Mike Edgar for 4-1 and it got worse for the visitors when Baffins full-back Freeman Williams ran the length of the field before setting up sub Danny Rimmer for number five.

It left Bash with just the consolation of a late Harry Cooper goal from Conor Whiteley’s inswinging free-kick.

*AFC Portchester returned to winning ways with a 3-1 Sydenhams Premier win over Amesbury Town at Wicor Rec.

After an uneventful first half, Rob Evans put the Royals ahead on the hour only for Cameron Roach to peg them back.

But Portchester quickly seized the lead again through Steve Ramsey before 16-year-old Brandon Miller set up Andy Todd for the third.

Portchester’s neighbours Fareham Town were out of action. Their home game against Portland United was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

*HORNDEAN managed to halt a five-match losing streak with a slender 1-0 win at Bournemouth Poppies, Tyler Moret’s strike proving decisive.

"A little better decision-making in the final third and we would have won by a lot more," said Deans boss Michael Birmingham.

*HAMBLE Club suffered their ninth defeat of the Sydenhams Premier season, pipped 3-2 away to Newport IW.

Port’s Gary Streeter made the first save of an open game after Mo Nyang had backheeled a shot goalwards.

But it was the Islanders who drew first blood when Monks keeper Rory Anderson managed to block Charlie Urry’s shot, but it fell nicely for Connor Kelly to tuck away.

Hamble’s recent strike signing River Smith levelled on the half-hour with a neat finish from inside the area and it remained 1-1 until the 58th minute when Port reclaimed the lead through Josh Younie after good work by Urry down the left-hand side.

Five minutes later Urry capped a fine personal performance with the goal of the match, cutting inside from the left and unleashing an unstoppable 20-yarder. It was his sixth goal in the last seven matches.

It almost got worse for Hamble when Aiden Sainsbury hit the corner of the goal frame from distance, but sub Doug Rowe then took advantage of weak back header to make it 3-2.

Still Newport continued to surge forward, having two efforts cleared off the line in the closing stages.

The third-to-bottom Islanders tomorrow (Tuesday, 7.45pm) host Sholing in the league.

Dave Diaper’s Boatmen are down to sixth, having had Saturday’s scheduled home match against Cowes Sports frozen off.
