AFTER five all-Sydenhams Wessex League ties, Hamble Club are finally ready to explore pastures new in the Buildbase FA Vase.

Ben Kneller’s Monks will travel to Hereford-based Westfields of the Midland League Premier Division in the 32 on Saturday, January 6.

Westfields are currently mid-table with games in hand on those above.

They were on the brink of going out of the Vase on Saturday, but scored twice at the death to dramatically dump out Plymouth Parkway 3-2 in Devon.

Hamble Club also fell into arrears against Horndean, but goals by Mo Nyang and Nathan Lynch saw them through to round four on their maiden Vase voyage.

Kneller said: “It’s a tough draw, very tough.

“But we’ve come through five rounds now and we’re going to have to go and play these sides.

“We’re all excited and we'll prepare properly and have a real go.

“We’re one step closer to Wembley and we’re not going to let go of that any time soon," he vowed.

“With no disrespect to Westfields, they’ve got a few ex-Hereford players, whereas we’ve got quite a few lads here – Ricky Bull, Liam Crook, Danny Cox, Matt Troon, PJ McLean - who were with us in Hampshire One days.

“Yes, we’ve added some, but a lot of these lads have been here since the day dot and they’ve earned the right to play in this cup.

“We’ve got the hardest draw out of the three Wessex sides left in the Vase, but we want to go and spoil the party.

“We won’t go there and stick ten men behind the ball, we’ll have a proper go.

“If we play well on the day, I fancy us against anyone.”

The Monks will have more silverware in their sights at The Abbey tomorrow (Tuesday, 7.45pm) when they take on Christchurch for a place in the quarter-finals of the Hampshire FA Senior Cup.
