Some great fish have been recorded by local anglers this week.

Hamble's Martin Smith landed the best of them - a monster 68lb stingray on a large ragworm bait .

Andy King, a member of Shirley SAC, has also been on the specimen trail while heading afloat in his own boat. He landed a personal best undulate ray weighing 12lb 2oz.

Abbotsbury Beach hosted the sixth round of the pegged open Solent League.

Over 70 competitors recorded 194 fish which were all measured and released at the point of capture.They included small-eyed-rays, smoothhound, thorneback rays, conger, dogfish, pout, poor cod, plaice, dabs, gurnard and silver eels.

Thirteen-year-old Riley Price collected £160 in pools for the longest gurnard with a fish measuring 25cm, while the pool for the heaviest fish was won by Liam McGrady who caught a 9lb 10oz smoothhound on his very last cast.

The flatfish pool was won by Julian Shambrook with a 14oz plaice.

Competitors struggled during the Lock Stock & Tackle latest midweek evening match which was fished at Hayling.

Adie Ferguson won the total length section with 221cm and also landed the longest fish, a 70 smoothhound. Darren Dixon was the runner up in both sections with 145cm and a 68cm thorneback ray.

The only other fish of note was a 67cm 6lb 11oz bass caught by Dean Scott.

AROUND THE CLUBS

SHIRLEY SAC: A large boat competition fished out from Hayling was dominated by pollack with Glen Murray recording the heaviest fish weighing 9lb 6oz.

Results: 1st Kenney Saunderson 40pts, 2nd Steve Southwell 32pts, 3rd Glen Murray 25pts.

FORD SPORTS SAC: Conditions produced difficult condition during a shore competition fished at Browndown. Paul Barcley won with a 5lb 13.5oz catch of smoothhound and a silver eel. Jamie Horn was runner-up with a solitary smoothhound weighing 5lb 1oz.

CHRISTCHURCH & DISTRICT FC: Keith Mills, the club's secretary' romped to victory during a shore competition fished along the Milford Shingle Bank where he beached a fine 11lb undulate ray.

Jeff Summers was the runner-up with a brace of smoothhound weighing 7lb; also caught during the evening were a number of gurnard, dogfish and pouting.

Others: 3rd John Parker 2lb 2oz, 4th Doug Hawkins 1lb 8oz, 5th Tony Amos 8oz.

SOUTHAMPTON SAC: A junior shallow boat competition produced 19 fish weighing 32lb 14oz.

Results: 1st Reece Miller 12lb 8oz, 2nd Alex Doe 11lb 5oz, 3rd Jack Stone 9lb 5oz.

The day’s heaviest fish was a 2lb 3.25 dogfish recorded by Alex Doe.
