IT WAS a Royal occasion for Southampton as The Queen came to town to officially name the Britannia.
And the Daily Echo was there to cover her visit from arrival to departure, from the big moment when the bottle smashed against the side of the ship to her guided tour around its magnificent features.

Celebrities and invited guests watched on as the Irish Guards and Band of the Royal Marines performed ahead of Her Majesty's arrival.
And crowds lined up outside the dock gates to catch a glimpse of the monarch leaving the city.
