Each year artists battle to reach the top spot in the charts at Christmas time in an attempt to be the year’s Christmas number one and 2021 is no different.
Ladbrokes has put together a list of current odds for the race to the top and this year it looks like a two-horse race between Elton John and Ed Sheeran and LadBaby.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "This looks set to be the closest Christmas Number One race we've seen in recent years, with the odds suggesting it's a straight two-horse race between Elton John & Ed Sheeran and LadBaby."

Ed Sheeran and Elton John – Merry Christmas
The duo has a good friendship so it comes as no surprise that they decided to write a Christmas song together.
“Merry Christmas” with @eltonofficial is out now. All profits from this year’s Christmas period will go to the Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation (https://t.co/Vq9UZtNIBP) and the Elton John AIDS Foundation (@ejaf)https://t.co/YWGL4zYU13 🎄❄️ pic.twitter.com/QraOtVZQpY

Merry Christmas has reached the number one spot in the UK Big Top 40’s Official Singles chart for Sunday December 5 but the question is, will it stay there?
LadBaby
Mark Hoyle, known as LadBaby, is a YouTuber alongside his wife Roxanne (LadBaby Mum) with 3 UK number one’s under his belt and although a Christmas song hasn’t been released for 2021 yet, Ladbrokes have him just behind Ed Sheeran and Elton John at 6/5 in the current odds.
The music video for last year’s song, Don’t Stop Me Eatin’, was posted on LadBaby’s YouTube channel and has 1.8 million views to date.
Have A Word Pod – Laura’s Gone
Adam Rowe and Dan Nightingale are hosts on the podcast Have A Word and this year they are hoping to achieve the Christmas Number One accolade while raising money for charities with their single Laura’s Gone.
The song is available to pre-order and it’s expected to be released on Friday December 17.
