WHETHER it’s maths, English or science, the smiling students of one Hampshire school have shown inspectors that they love going to class.

Their love for school, along with strong leadership, has resulted in St Swithun Wells Catholic Primary School receiving a glowing report from Ofsted.

The small Chandler’s Ford school now aims to build on that success and ensure that it is classed as outstanding when it is next inspected.

The report graded the 170-pupil school as good in all categories, including achievements and standards, with outstanding aspects in the personal development of the children.

It said: “Most parents agree that their children are very happy at school. This, together with good teaching and a lively curriculum, leads to pupils’ outstanding enjoyment of their education.

“Pupils’ achievement and progress are good and standards are above average.”

However, for the school to achieve top marks, the report found that improvements need to be made with students’ self-evaluation and community involvement with other cultures.

The report added: “The school has taken good and effective steps to introduce improvements since the last inspection. This, together with accurate school self-evaluation, demonstrates that the school has a good capacity to make further improvements.”

In a letter to the children, the inspectors said how impressed they were with their work.

Head teacher Ursula Clark said: “We are delighted with the contents of the report as it recognised the many good features of this school.

“We were particularly pleased with the comments about the school being a happy place for children to be.

“We believe that we achieved this outcome because of the excellent working relationship with staff, parents and children.

“We very much view this as a stepping stone to becoming an outstanding school in the future.”
