OUTSTANDING! Freemantle Church of England Infant School has been given top marks following its Ofsted inspection.

The school was highly praised for its high teaching and learning standards ensuring excellent academic results.

Inspectors found that the school's 219 pupils had "first rate attitudes" to learning.

Head teacher Kevin Barnett, who was praised for his "effective" and "innovative" leadership said: "We are very pleased with the report. It clearly recognises the innovative and outstanding work of the whole school community.

"The amazing comments made about behaviour, attitudes, motivation and progress show that children really do enjoy and achieve' in our school."

Educational standards were found to be excellent at the school where pupils made "rapid progress" in the foundation stage which continued with outstanding progress in Years 1 and 2.

Inspectors concluded all pupils made outstanding progress, whether they had learning and behaviour difficulties, or were gifted and talented.

Standards were found to be above average overall, especially in reading and writing The school was also praised for improving pupils' attendance levels and its "very strong commitment" by teaching and non teaching staff to ensure the school runs smoothly for the benefit of all pupils.
