POLICE are searching for a missing ex-serviceman who may be in the Winchester area.

Concern is growing for former soldier Daniel Johnston, 35, disappeared yesterday after visiting family and friends in the Bognor Regis area.

He told his mother he was going out but did not return and has not made contact with friends or family since.

He was last seen trying to hitch a lift, possibly in an attempt to return home to Hereford.

Mr Johnston is a for,er member of the Princess of Wales's Regiment, known as The Tigers, who has served in Iraq, Afghanistan and Bosnia.

A message on the regiment's Facebook page says: "He is in a bad way and needs help and support."

Mr Johnston is thought to have made his way to Queen Elizabeth Country Park near Petersfield. The search area is now being extended amid speculation that he might be in the Winchester area.

He is described as white, 6ft, of medium build and with shaven hair.

He was wearing a beige baseball cap, a dark blue puffa jacket, blue jeans and Asics trainers.

Police say Mr Johnston is heavily tattooed on both arms and his back. One of his legs is fully tattooed with geometrical designs and the words "Blues Brothers" just above his left ankle.

Anyone who thinks they may have seen him is asked to call police on 101.
