A HUMANITARIAN hero is set to open a new branch of a charity superstore.

Terry Waite was famously captured in 1987 by Hezbollah after he had been sent by the Church of England to try and free other captives held in Beirut.

After four years in solitary confinement and held for a total of five years, Terry was released in 1992 and shortly afterwards became president of Hampshire based charity Emmaus.

The organisation supports homeless people around the county and the new Shirley 40,000 sq ft store, due to open at 3pm today on Janson Road, will be an outlet for donated furniture and household goods.

The charity are asking for donations which can be dropped off or collected.
