CURATORS at a Southampton gallery are launching their new show - with a trip to a Southampton suburb.

Organisers at K6 Gallery will take you on a tour of Shirley when their new exhibition opens next month.

Next Stop: City Bus is a new version of a project commissioned by Southampton City Council 25 years ago.

As reported poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy - then an unknown writer - and photographer Nancy Honey were asked to ride the city's bus routes, taking pictures and making poetry along the way.

Now K6 Gallery have commissioned a new poet and photographer to make work based on the things they see along the number 17 bus.

Their work will go on show on the Bluestar line - and you can take a trip to see it as well as hear the pair talk onboard.

The original work from 1993 by Duffy and Honey will go on show in the iconic K6 grade II listed phone boxes while poet Ella Frears - who has been inspired by Southampton singer Craig David for some of her work - and photographer Toby Glanville's new work will be shown on the bus until March 2019.

You are invited to meet at the Town Quay phone boxes on December 2 to see the original work, before hopping on a specially scheduled no.17 bus.

The tour takes approximately one hour thirty minutes to get through Shirley, to the general hospital and back to town, returning by 4pm.

Places are limited so you are asked to book in advance.

As reported the gallery are recruiting a number of paid "ambassadors" to explain the exhibition to passengers - and collect feedback about the work.
