A CONTROVERSIAL plan for new homes on a Hampshire greenfield site have been thrown out by civic chiefs.

The plans for 150 houses on a five-hectare site off Posbrook Lane in Titchfield which includes a community space, off-site parking and some accessible, natural green space were refused by planners at Fareham Borough Council last month.

Alongside this, there would also be a new scout hut which could be used by the 1st Titchfield Sea Scouts.

Councillor Sean Woodward, leader of Fareham Borough Council said: “The site is not in the existing local plan or the draft local plan. It is also in the strategic countryside gap which is why it has been recommended for refusal.”

Ann Wheal, chairwoman of the Titchfield Neighbourhood Forum, said: “The Posbrook Lane plans would completely change the nature of Titchfield environmentally and historically which is want we want to avoid.

“The lane is an important link to the nearby beaches on the coast with many cars and cyclists using the road already, more houses would cause constant blockages not just on the lane but across the whole village.

“The scheme isn’t appropriate will go against the borough councils own ‘Development Sites and Policies Plan’ and our own Neighbourhood Plan as it’s a greenfield site.”

Nick Girdler, chairman of the Titchfield Village Trust, added: “I am very pleased that the proposals have been refused. It is against their own planning policy of developing in strategic countryside gaps.”

Hundreds of residents also expressed their backlash at a recent public consultation event saying the scheme would create more traffic, noise pollution and have a negative effect on the village’s status as a conservation area.

As previously reported, developers Foreman Homes submitted plans to Fareham Borough Council in June.
