GOVERNMENT officials have agreed to review the case of a two-year-old British girl who disappeared 36 years ago from a British military base in Germany.

Katrice Lee went missing from a Naafi supermarket at the Paderborn base in Germany in 1981, shortly after her second birthday.

The toddler, whose mother Sharon is from Gosport were stationed at the base at the time with Katrina's father, Richard from Hartlepool.

This week marks 36 years since she vanished whilst on a shopping trip with her mother.

International appeals have failed to help find her but her family have never given up hope that she could still be alive.

Responding to a question from Hartlepool MP Mike Hill in the House of Commons, defence secretary Gavin Williamson said he was ‘happy’ to sanction a review into the case.

Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr Hill asked: As the Royal Military Police's Operation Bute is still live, will the Secretary of State agree to review the case and meet me, and my constituent Mr Richard Lee, Katrice's father, to discuss the matter?"

Mr Williamson responded: "I should be more than happy to review the case and meet the honourable gentleman to discuss it in greater detail."

A re-investigation of the case, called Operation Bute, is already being carried out by Royal Military Police.
