A DRIVE to get residents more active is to be rolled out in the Eastleigh borough this summer.

A series of sports sessions are to be run in parks across the borough from July 30 until August 26.

Sessions will cost £3 for adults and £5 for a family of four and will include boxercise, cardio tennis, canoeing, yoga and kettlercise.

Residents will also have the chance to enjoy pilates and tai chi classes as well as learning how to use outdoor gym equipment at the parks.

The scheme called Your Park is run by Eastleigh Borough Council’s SportWorks Team.

Cllr Tonia Craig, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: "There is overwhelming evidence to suggest that physical and mental wellbeing is greatly enhanced when people exercise outside in the fresh air. Your Park is about encouraging individuals and families to make the most of the borough’s wonderful parks and open spaces, to highlight activities do not have to cost a lot of money and show you don’t need expensive pieces of equipment or the latest fitness gear."

All activities will be led by qualified instructors and will be tailored for beginners and those who do not exercise at all.

"If you’re currently doing little or no exercise Your Park is a great opportunity to have a go at different activities – and in a fun and informal way,”Cllr Craig added.

Residents will be able to book their favourite activities online by visiting www.eastleigh.gov.uk/YourPark from June 19.

The scheme, follows This Girl Can Eastleigh, a series of free sports activities launched by the borough council in March to encourage women to get active.
