A MAJOR discount chain is to open a new branch in Chandler’s Ford, creating 25 jobs.

Poundstretcher will open a new store at Chestnut Avenue Retail Park next month following a £500,000 investment.

The company has not set an official opening date yet, but it confirmed that the new store would create 25 part-time and full-time jobs.

Residents will be given the chance to win more than £3,000-worth of giveaways on the opening day, along with games and balloons.

Gerry Loughran, managing director, said: “We look forward to welcoming the people of Chandler’s Ford and offering them amazing value for money with great bargains on thousands of branded products.

“We are expecting massive queues for our opening day specials, so come early to catch the bargains.”

The retailer sells a variety of products, ranging from confectionery to toiletries, at discounted prices.

Cllr Derek Pretty, cabinet lead for economy at Eastleigh Borough Council, welcomed the news.

He said: “It’s great to see another national retailer choosing to site their business here. It follows a number of recent announcements of big companies either expanding or making new investments in the borough, further contributing to the economic prosperity of our area.

“We’re pleased to welcome Poundstretcher.”
