PARKS in Eastleigh are set for a new lease of life.

Plans have been unveiled for a £450,000 revamp which will see new play equipment and skate facilities in parks across the town.

The scheme is still at an early stage and the designs are yet to be unveiled.

But according to the proposal, new play equipment is to be put in the green area off Lawn Road, near the paddling pool at Fleming Park, at Grantham Green and at Campbell Road play area.

A new playground is also set to be created at Bishopstoke Recreation ground where the car park will also be upgraded.

Meanwhile, the Freespace skate park is to have new skate facilities and the existing skate park jumps are to be improved.

Plans are also being drawn up for Leigh Road Recreation Ground in the heart of Eastleigh

According to the proposal, a hardstanding could be created around the bandstand and existing paths could be improved and new flowers and trees could be planted.

The scheme is part of a wider project to revitalise town centre and that includes a new car boot sale, free Wi-Fi and plans for the first ever Eastleigh Pride set to take place in September.

Eastleigh BID, the organisation that promotes the town centre, welcomed the plans to revamp the parks.

Manager Teresa Swann said: “This is a great news.

“We have to upgrade those area to make them look fresh and new and also provide residents with new facilities.

“This will encourage people to spend more time outside and enjoy the town centre and I hope it will bring more visitors to Eastleigh.”

The scheme was backed by town bosses and money will come from Eastleigh local Area Committee and developer’s contributions.
