A GANG of weapon-wielding men with scarves covering their faces attacked a man in his home and left him with serious injuries.
Police say the "nasty" assault took place when the 49-year-old victim confronted the gang after they broke into his home.
According to officers, the men forced their way into the home, in Forest Road, Chandler's Ford, at around 11pm on Tuesday, January 2.
Covering their faces with either scarves or balaclavas, the group attacked the man, with one using a weapon to deliver a blow to the victim's head.
The gang then ran from the address.
The victim was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment for serious but not life-threatening head injuries.
One of the attackers was described as wearing a grey coloured hooded top.
The others were described as wearing dark clothing.
Detective Constable Russell Smith said: “This was a nasty assault and we would like to hear from anyone with information on what happened.
“Were you in the area of Forest Road at around this time?
“Did you notice four males together? Or perhaps you noticed vehicles in the area that you did not recognise? If so, please get in touch.”
