THERE will be no excuse not to take part in the Celebrity SunWalk in Southampton, as the campaign to sign up thousands of power walkers gathers pace.

Walk the Walk, the leading UK-based grantmaking breast cancer charity, has joined forces with Celebrity Cruises to launch the first ever Celebrity SunWalk, taking place in the city in April.

The charity hopes to recruit thousands of men, women and children to walk either 5km or 10km around the city.

In a bid to get the Southampton public strapping on their trainers, a roadshow will be in the city this weekend to promote the event.

A Walk the Walk team will be at The Mall Marlands shopping centre throughout today and tomorrow to encourage shoppers to sign up.

While walkers can also sign up online, entry forms are now available at a number of gyms and leisure centres across the city and beyond.

They include Fitness First in Shirley, Portswood Cycles and St Mary’s Leisure Centre.

The Daily Echo-backed walk, which encourages adult participants to wear decorated bras, will make its Southampton premiere in celebration of the launch of the latest ship from Celebrity Cruises, Celebrity Eclipse, which will be named in the city on the same day.

The event is sponsored by Celebrity Cruises, which recently made Walk the Walk founder Nina Barough CBE godmother of Celebrity Equinox, which launched in Southampton in July this year.

Entering Celebrity SunWalk could win one walker two nights on this magnificent ship along with other fantastic prizes.

The walk will start in Mayflower Park on April 24, and Celebrity Eclipse will form a the backdrop for the finish line.

Nina called on the Southampton public to sign up.

She said: “Take this opportunity to sign up to the challenge and you could help to really make a difference. You can raise money and awareness for vital breast cancer causes, get fit, and have fun all at the same time!”
