A CITY homelessness charity is asking you to help the needy this Christmas.

Society of St James are asking you to 'Give a Christmas Meal' to someone in need.

For just £5 you can donate a festive dinner to a vulnerable adult, and for just £10 that can include a special gift as well.

It comes just days after city homeless services that dealing with homelessness costs the council £5million a year - and 25 beds have been made available to the homeless this winter

SSJ operations director Jane Smith said: "Christmas can be a very difficult time for many of the people accessing our services and we are often the only support network they have. Being able to provide them with a Christmas meal and a gift helps them feel valued and special and brings many of them together at what can be a very lonely time.

"When you support our Christmas ‘Give A Dinner’ appeal, it’s clear that you are not just providing someone with a plate of food. This simple gesture can give a vital boost to someone’s emotional and psychological wellbeing over the festive period, making them feel less alone and a greater part of their community.

"A donation of £5.00 provides a Christmas Meal and a donation of £10 helps us buy a gift to make Christmas that bit more special for the vulnerable people we support.

"People can donate by visiting our website http://www.ssj.org.uk/giveadinner/ and find out more information about the appeal."

As reported people at a homeless camp set up in the city centre have been told to move on by city officials.
