A Southampton pub has raised over £1000 for charity.

The Hinkler pub in Thornhill raised £1,120 for Help for Heroes by holding a fun day featuring five a side football, speed pool, and a tug of war competition.

The pub had originally hoped to raise £500, but smashed their target by over £600.

At a presentation ceremony held at the pub, organiser, Jason Hallett from Boswell Close, thanked everyone who helped out, or donated, money or time to the event

"It was great to see. It shows that the community of Thornhill can pull together. The area has a reputation but I wanted to show that there are good people here"

Help for Heroes is a charity close to the heart of landlady, Karen Williams who has two sons serving in the army for over twenty years.

The pub has raised over £12,000 in the last five years for various causes including Help for Heroes and The Wessex Cancer Trust.

Ben Henson, Head of Capabilities from Help for Heroes said he greatly appreciated the efforts of the Thornhill community " It only takes a few people to make a difference. It doesn't matter if it's 50p or £500."
