Launched by the Band of the Coldstream Guards, the leading show of its kind will also see fine dining and scuba diving in a special tank among the many attractions on shore plus action packed displays on the water.

Visitors will also have the chance to test drive anything from RIBs to powerboats and yachts plus free dinghy sailing lessons for budding sailors. Vintage vessels such as the wartime launch HMS Medusa and a former Brixham sailing trawler built in 1892 will also be open to the public.

Cruising past daily on the water will be a daily Boat Parade, comprising a flotilla of modern, old school and iconic boats while a commentator regails tales and information on each craft, their history and any innovations they carry.

And all the while some 14 cruise ships are scheduled to ply past during the event, making for a packed out harbour scene.

Climb aboard the “science ship” Callista to find out the secrets of the underwater world or explore the world of scuba diving with Try-a-Dive sessions.

This gives visitors of all ages the chance to get in the water in a purpose-built tank.

Back on shore the fruits of the sea will be on offer at the Oyster Festival. This is a new feature this year and billed as the first interactive show of its kind, with chefs carrying out daily demonstrations.

Ladies Day next Thursday will give the opportunity to win “best dressed” title.

Top writers from the world of boating will be converging for the Author’s Live event. Confirmed guests include Doug Innes on how to tackle the heavy weather.

Real boating enthusiasts can also quiz the experts in another new feature, with boat clinics running throughout the show, giving visitors the opportunity to ask experts questions on a range of sailing themes.

Guest speakers have also been booked to talk about everything from kayak fishing to top tips for racing sailors with coaching legend Jim Saltonstall.
