CHILDREN and staff at an Eastleigh pre-school have been celebrating after getting a top of the class result.

Crestwood Pre-School has been awarded the Pre-school Learning Alliance's national accreditation certificate for setting an excellent quality of provision.

The scheme is the first of its kind to recognise the importance of linking early years learning with high-quality care and the significance of involving parents.

Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne, who presented the award, said: "Every child deserves the best start in life and the opportunity to achieve their potential.

"Good quality pre-school services like Crestwood Pre-School encourage young children's development and also help parents balance their work and family life."

A pre-school is often the first environment that a child regularly attends away from home and so is a crucial part in his or her early development.
