A vehicle fire forced the closure of the car park of two popular fast-food chains in Millbrook this afternoon.

The joint parking area for KFC and McDonalds at Millbrook Roundabout was temporarily shut as firefighters attended the scene.

One petrol car caught fire, requiring a crew from Redbridge station to wear breathing apparatus and use one hose reel to put it out.

The initial call came in at 3.20pm and firefighters returned to the station around 4pm.

The car park is now open as normal.

KFC has been in the news in Southampton this week after their Portswood store “voluntarily closed” to deal with a pest problem.

The chicken shop on Portswood Road put a sign in the window informing customers that the restaurant had closed for maintenance work.

A KFC spokesperson said: “After being alerted to a pest issue in the local area affecting other businesses, our Portswood location voluntarily closed out of an abundance of caution while we investigated alongside the relevant specialists.”
