Monty's Community Hub is hosting a family event to celebrate pumpkins.

The event, Pumpkin Fest, is on October 30 from 12pm to 4pm. Families can join in various baking and craft activities to encourage the Sholing community to eat pumpkins and reduce waste this Halloween.

The event aligns with the Hubbub charity's #EatYourPumpkin campaign to promote pumpkin decorating over carving. According to Hubbub, around 24.5 million pumpkins could go to waste this year.

The campaign is supported by Starbucks, which has helped Hubbub reduce food waste since 2018.

Mark Breen, senior creative partner at Hubbub said: "The fact over a quarter of UK kids have never eaten a pumpkin has spooked me as they’re so tasty. Last Halloween, 69 per cent of pumpkins bought were carved which makes them much more likely to go to waste. So, this year, whether you turn your pumpkin into a minion or even your favourite celeb, give decorating a go!"
