St Mary's Stadium hasn’t been extensively used for music concerts but it has hosted some big names over the years - including Take That for the second time recently.

King of pop Sir Elton John took to the stage in 2005 in the first-ever concert to take place in the stadium.

More than 25,000 fans packed into the stands and onto specially laid-out seats on top of hard plastic covering on the pitch to see the flamboyant star make his return to the south coast.

Bon Jovi rocked the foundations of Southampton’s ground when they came to the city in 2006.

After an afternoon lapping up scorching temperatures, the crowd of more than 30,000 were well and truly warmed up for one of the most eagerly anticipated gigs of the year.

They were not disappointed.

Tens of thousands of adoring Robbie Williams fans bounced as Let Me Entertain You filled the stadium in 2017.

Robbie proved himself a spectacular showman as he wowed the crowds with a spectacular show.

Hovering over the audience on a giant boxing glove as he sang I Love My Life, the Heavy Entertainment Show saw South Coast fans enjoy a great mix of new tracks and hits from the Robbie back catalogue.

But one of the biggest names came in 2018, when the Rolling Stones brought huge crowds with them.

Excited fans made their way to St Mary’s stadium to see the legendary rockers perform.

While lightning was forecast, hundreds of fans were undeterred, arriving several hours early to soak up the building atmosphere.

And their determination paid off as a forecast downpour failed to materialise.

The show formed part of the second leg of the ‘Stones - No Filter Tour’, with Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood taking to the road once again.

US rock band The Killers graced the St Mary's stage in 2022.

Originally, they were set to perform in 2020 and then 2021, but the coronavirus pandemic put their Imploding the Mirage tour on hold.

Thousands piled into the stadium to watch the band perform in a “super spreader” night, as described by Killers frontman Brandon Flowers, who said: “We’re spreading peace, we’re spreading love and we’re spreading rock and roll.”
