A dazzling Formula 1 car was the highlight of British Science Week at Brockenhurst College.

Recently, the college organised its largest-ever series of science-focused events.

The Oracle Red Bull Racing car, similar to Max Verstappen's vehicle, was loaned by Red Bull's race partner, ExxonMobil.

Trackside technical advisor Fiona McEwan guided the audience through the car's functions and teamwork strategies to ensure optimal race performance.

Aaron Markar, Head of Sciences at Ballard School, who attended alongside his pupils on three separate days, said: "The variety of activities offered throughout the week was truly impressive.

"The organisers did a fantastic job of providing a diverse range of events that catered to various interests and student preferences, ensuring everyone could engage with something.

"What particularly stood out to me was the overwhelmingly positive response from the students.

"Their enthusiasm and participation were quite evident, reflecting a genuine excitement for science and exploration.

"It was truly heartening to witness their eagerness to discuss the subject matter presented during the workshops, demonstrations, and discussions.

"I also feel that the supportive and encouraging atmosphere cultivated during the events was commendable."

The Sixth Form students were accompanied by Year 9, 10, and 11 pupils from Ballard School and New Forest Academy.

Together, these curious students engaged in a diverse array of learning opportunities set up on the main college campus.

This celebrated 30 years of the national learning initiative.

TECH:TRUCK, the Local Skills Improvement Fund's promotional vehicle decked with VR headsets and AI robots, was also present.

Several guest lectures enriched the occasion.

ExxonMobil and many local STEM employers shared insights, including Dr Hooshyar Assadullahi from the University of Portsmouth.

Key workshops delved into psychology, cybersecurity, engineering, physiotherapy, chemistry, geology, and pharmaceutical development.

The week concluded with the Brockenhurst College STEM Awards, recognizing high-achieving learners.

Presided over by Assistant Principal Steve Jenkin, 27 awards were handed out to outstanding students, each receiving a citation, a certificate, and a cash prize from event sponsor Ultra Energy.
