The owner of a Southampton pub is still searching for a new landlord, five months after the pub was closed.

The Windsor Castle, situated in Shirley precinct, has been closed since November 2023.

The previous landlords said they were leaving because “we have to” but added the pub “isn’t going anywhere”.

But several months on, it still lies empty.

Now, Admiral Taverns, which owns the Windsor Castle, said that it is still recruiting for the pub.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Admiral Taverns told the Echo: “We have a brilliant opportunity available at the Windsor Castle in Southampton for a passionate and enthusiastic individual - or team - who is interested in running their own pub.

“The pub, which faces onto Shirley high street, benefits from the passing trade and weekly street markets, whilst also hosting a street license itself, which provides a great area for customers to enjoy the busy street ambiance.”

They added: “We are looking for an experienced community focused licensee who can cement the pub at the heart of the town, with a regular schedule of entertainment, as well as extensive sports offering.

“The Windsor Castle has a strong community feel and is well supported by its loyal customer base, including sports teams.

“The incoming licensee should have ambitious plans to continue to grow this, whilst also supporting several other community initiatives.”

Admiral previously told the Echo that it had found a “passionate new licensee from the local area” to take over the pub and that it was working “extremely hard” to reopen the pub as soon as possible.
