There's nothing quite like going to a good pub - whether it's for a Sunday roast, to meet with friends for a drink on a weeknight after work or for drinks on a spring afternoon.
And here in Southampton, we're spoilt for choice with scores of great pubs to choose from.
But the city's pubs have had a tough few years of it, struggling first with restrictions imposed amid the Covid pandemic, before the rising cost of living hit the sector hard.

#8 Shenanigans
In eighth place Shenanigans, which claims to be Southampton’s only authentic Irish Pub, and was founded in 2019.
The pub is praised by TripAdvisor reviewers for having the "best atmosphere for a rugby match" and "brilliant live music Friday and Saturday nights" making it a perfect spot for some live sport and live music.

#7 Scholars Arms
Coming in at number seven on the list is the Scholars Arms.
Based right in the centre of Southampton on Above Bar Street, this pub has left reviewers astounded by the staff being "very welcoming and ensure you leave satisfied with your visit".
Reviews left describe the Greene King pub as a "very big pub and nice and clean".

#6 London Brew House
London Brew House is described as one of Southampton’s nicest bars with plenty of variety for everyone to enjoy.
One reviewer said: "Relaxed atmosphere and huge amount of seating across two floors."
Inside, there are lots of TV screens for sport events, a jukebox and a pool table.
It also features a pizza oven, meaning punters can see their food being cooked.

#5 The Winston Hotel Bar and Grill
Finishing in the top five is The Winston Hotel Bar and Grill.
The pub is described by reviewers as "one of the most underrated spots in Southampton".
With the Sunday roast being lauded as "elite", the portion sizes are described as huge.

#4 The Mitre
Narrowly missing out on the top three is the Mitre.
The pub is applauded in reviews for having "great atmosphere in pub for sporting events", accepting "big bookings" and a "great varied food menu at a decent price".

#3 Good Companions
Taking the bronze medal on the list is the Good Companions in Eastleigh.
The pub is described by reviewers for being "pub grub at its best".
The food has received plenty of plaudits with some saying it’s an "outstanding experience" and even "an excellent mid-week lunch venue".

#2 Brewhouse and Kitchen
Just missing out on first place on the list is Brewhouse and Kitchen
This watering hole is praised for having "gorgeous food and great value for money" for its customers.
Its gin tasting experience has proved to be a big hit with it being described as "very enjoyable and informative".

#1 The Bedford
Taking the top spot in Southampton is the Bedford.
Described a ‘fantastic place’ which has been praised for its ‘great service from staff’ with the drink selection being ‘top tier’.
Open until 12am every evening the Quiz nights at the pub are a big hit with loads of teams taking part every Thursday for different themed quiz nights every week. They range from Harry Potter themed to FIFA Songs quiz.
