The FA Cup winning medal of unsung Saints hero Hugh Fisher has sold at auction this morning for £12,000.
Although an unused substitute on the famous day in 1976 when second tier Southampton overcame mighty Manchester United, the Scottish midfielder scored arguably one of the most important goals in the club's history on the road to Wembley.
He kept Saints in the competition that year with a last-minute equaliser in the third round against Aston Villa at The Dell.

80-year-old Hughie, who played 366 games for Saints during a ten year spell, scoring 11 goals, decided to raise some funds for family experiences and put his medal under the hammer
The auction, with Graham Budd Auctions Ltd, closed at £12,000, above the auctioneers estimate and £4,000 more than a runners up medal sold at the same event.
The medal, inscribed on the reverse with The Football Association Challenge Cup Winner Hugh Fisher Southampton FC 1975-76 was displayed in its original case.
