'It's a great relief they came out of it alive'

A fire spokesperson has said: "We expect our crews will have some form of presence at the Curdridge property for most of the day. They will be joined this morning by fire investigation officers who will work to establish the cause of the blaze."

Fire service confirms the roof has been destroyed
A fire service spokesperson has said: "It was confirmed the roof had been destroyed and the ground-floor had suffered significant water damage following the stop message, which came in shortly after 9am.
"Teams from Overton, Fordingbridge, New Milton, Redbridge, Liphook, Hardley and Winchester have attended this morning to continue damping down hotspots.
"We expect our crews will have some form of presence at the Curdridge property for most of the day. They will be joined this morning by fire investigation officers who will work to establish the cause of the blaze."
More than 60 firefighters fought the blaze
In an update this morning, the fire service has said: "More than 60 firefighters worked into the night to stop a large fire which destroyed a property in Curdridge.
"Firefighters arrived at around half seven last night to find the roof involved in a significant fire.
"Fortunately there were no casualties, with all occupants having safely evacuated.
"Fourteen fire engines were in attendance at the height of incident, along with the aerial ladder, specialist water carrier and environmental protection vehicles.
"Crews from Botley, Bishop’s Waltham, Hightown, Fareham, Eastleigh, Wickham, St Mary’s, Droxford, Cosham and Hamble were involved in the initial stages of the blaze.
"The electric and gas supplies to the property were isolated by engineers, as firefighters used hose reels and jets to extinguish the flames.
"USAR officers provided advice due to the property’s unstable structure following fire damage.
"The fire was surrounded shortly after midnight, when relief crews from Basingstoke, Alton, Hayling Island, Grayshott, Gosport, Rushmoor, Lymington and Horndean took over from the firefighters who were first on the scene."

Neighbour Phil Sommereux, a retired dentist, 64, who lives opposite, said: "We were watching a film when my wife stood up and said she could see flames and we realised it was a house on fire.
"I went over there to see if I could help. We didn't know if anyone was trapped. I called the fire brigade on my way over.
"Luckily everybody was out and the fire brigade was there.
"It was pretty dramatic. It's certainly very upsetting for the owners who have been there for about 35 years.
"The fire had ripped through the roof. It was completely unexpected. We obviously feel very sorry for the owners who are now presumably homeless for some time.
"It was quite spectacular. I expect there will be a lot of support for them."
Everyone was evacuated so there were no injuries
Incident commander Simon Packer said: "We got call at 7.23pm for a domestic fire. On arrival the roof we well alight. We eventually had 14 fire appliances as well as three water carriers.
"The fire was in the first floor and roof. Everyone was evacuated so there were no injuries.
"The fire is out but we're going to be here fir some time yet dampening down which necessitates the road closure. It will probably be closed for the rest of the day.
"The first floor and roof have completely gone and there is severe water damage to the ground floor.
"The fire investigation team is here now so that we can try and determine a cause."
'The fire was huge'
Last night one person posted on Waltham Chase Neighbourhood News: "We heard the bangs. It sounded like gunshots. Looked out and the fire was huge. It's the big house left of Poplars Farm. Very sad."
What has the fire service said?
"Crews from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are tackling a large fire in Curdridge Lane.
"The fire was reported at 19:24 and at the peak of the incident 14 appliances were at the scene.
"Crews remain on site and there is currently a road closures on Curdridge Lane which is likely to remain in place for most of the day.
"There were no injuries, and everyone has been accounted for. At this stage we do not have a cause for the fire."
Our reporter at the scene has been told that they are reducing the road closure to improve access for farms.
The fire investigation team are on the way now to determine the cause.
