It's the friendly locals pub at the heart of the community, which now boasts a life-saving defibrillator.

Punters at The Ironmaster in Fareham clubbed together to fund the medical kit, which has now been installed at the front of the pub, on West Street.

Operator Steve Morgan launched the fundraiser after taking a walk down the High Street and realising that there was no defibrillator available nearby.

Customers and staff raised an impressive £1,200 to cover the cost of the equipment via summer and Christmas raffles, and New Year's Eve ticket sales.

Steve then teamed up with Lee-on-the-Solent based charity the Alex Wardle Foundation which has helped get the defibrillator installed and will then use the remaining cash for another piece of life-saving kit.

The equipment was officially unveiled by Fareham Borough Council leader Cllr Sean Woodward at a recent celebration event.

The charity was set up in memory of 23-year-old medic Alex Wardle who died from sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (SADS) after he collapsed at home in Hampshire.

His family aim to keep his legacy alive by providing communities with defibrillators, which, if used within eight minutes of a cardiac arrest, can increase the chance of survival by 80 per cent.

The Ironmaster isn’t stopping there; the pub is also currently hosting a vote on their social media for the next charity that they should fundraise for as they pick a charity every year to sponsor.

The Craft Union pub hosts regular raffles, bonus balls and other fundraising events.

Locals are treated to a weekly national pub quiz where the pub gets involved with quiz lovers from across the UK to test their customers knowledge on music, sports and famous faces.

The Talk Sport pub quiz is a new addition to the programme. It has just launched and is proving popular.

The Ironmaster also hosts a weekly karaoke slot and has a DJ playing all the hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s on weekends.

Recent live music has included vocalist Ali Shepherd, with her mix of pop, jazz pop, soul, classic 60s, Motown and musical theatre.
