A music conference which aims to do for Southampton what Europe's leading new music event The Great Escape did for Brighton is to take place in March.

Southampton’s live music promoter & label collective, Honeymooner, and Solent University, Southampton have teamed up to create and present the industry focused event, Parallel Music Conference, at Solent University on Thursday March 14.

Parallel Music Conference will bring music industry professionals working across production, songwriting, artist management, marketing, publishing, community, A&R and artists themselves to Southampton for a series of talks and panels.

These discussions will aim to equip tomorrow’s artists and industry leaders with the knowledge they will need for the future.

Spearheaded by Solent music course alumni Jamie Ford and Matthew Bisgrove, Parallel is created solely to champion the Southampton, Hampshire and surrounding music scenes.

Jamie told the Daily Echo: "Creating a music industry conference in Southampton is something we’ve wanted to do and partner on for years. There is so much existing creativity in the city to harness and show off to the rest of the country. There are also so many more opportunities we could be opening up by bringing the nationwide music industry here to deliver insights and network.

“Southampton is a city with such a vibrant creative scene which sadly, like many other regional and non 'key city' areas, gets bypassed. This means so much great talent and art gets missed, especially as many individuals do not have access to time or funds to travel to bigger cities for established events/conferences and networking opportunities.”

Parallel Music Conference will aim to support those looking to forge career paths such as artist, music producer, artist manager, marketing, PR/publicity/radio, live promotion & festivals, A&R, photography, content creation and more.

The mission is to deliver the latest advice and insights from professionals across the music ecosystem to create a toolkit which will help the next generation to navigate their very own music career, and support those around them.

The full panel programme for Parallel Music Conference will be announced in February, in addition to the lineup for the aftershow event at Heartbreakers music venue.
