Get out and about and beat the January blues with some winter fun.

There's plenty to do in Southampton this month. Here's six ideas.

Skate (while you still can)...

The delightful annual event Westquay on Ice draws to a close on Sunday, but there's still time to don your skates and throw some shapes.

This year's rink is bigger and better than ever before with 700 sqm of ice to glide around, penguin skate aids and the ‘Après Bar’ next door, where you can relax after a spot of exercise with a hot chocolate, mulled wine or frost bier.

See Saints (hopefully) continue their record-breaking run...

Russell Martin's men are unbeaten in 18 as they go in to FA Cup action against Walsall at St Mary's on Saturday.

Hopefully the historic unbeaten run, which will equal the 19-match unbeaten stint in the 1920/21 season with a win over the League Two side, will continue during three home matches in January.

Saints also take on relegation threatened Sheffield Wednesday on January 13 and will line up against Hull on January 27, unless the match is moved to accommodate an FA Cup fourth round tie.

Children's tickets are from £1 for the Wednesday match.

See a show...

Direct from The London Palladium, the sensational new production of one of the world’s most beloved musicals comes to Southampton.

The Wizard of Oz will star The Vivienne as The Wicked Witch Of The West.

Featuring the iconic original score from the Oscar-winning MGM film including Over The Rainbow, Follow The Yellow Brick Road and We're Off To See The Wizard with additional songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, join Dorothy, Toto, and friends on an unforgettable adventure down the yellow brick road to the merry old land of Oz from January 16 to 21.

Also at Mayflower Theatre this month are Everybody's Talking About Jamie and I Should Be So Lucky.

MAST welcomes Jeff Stelling and The Importance of Being Earnest among other treats.

Celebrate Burns Night...

Celebrate the life and poetry of Robbie Burns at various Southampton venues, most notably The Grand in South Western House with the Lord's Taverners.

This annual event always proves to be a popular one, with the famous Address to the Haggis, complimented by a piper and followed by a traditional four course Scottish feast.

With Mike McOsman as compere for the evening and Maxine Mazumder's Lulu show, you are sure to be entertained throughout.  To top off the night, we have the show stopping Maxine Mazumder with her ‘LuLu’ show, to liven up the dance floor with iconic hits like Shout and Relight My Fire.

Go to a gig...

02 Guildhall Southampton plays host to Ashley McBryde, the Grammy-winning country singer-songwriter and member of the Trybe, later this month.

Craig Charles will be bringing his Funk and Soul Party to The Engine Rooms.

The Brook boasts tributes to Dire Straits, ELO, Fleetwood Mac, Black Sabbath, and Muse among others.

Take offs of the musical greats continue at The 1865 with fake Pink Floyd, Nirvana and Rolling Stones.
