The team behind a ram-raided business forced to shut just before Christmas has thanked people for their support.

It comes as Hampshire police confirmed an investigation was underway into the significant damage caused at a warehouse in Millbrook.

Poingdestres Angling Centre was broken into on Saturday, December 23, with the business forced to close on its last trading day before Christmas.

Glass and rubble were left scattered along the ground outside the entrance of the premises.

The company had to close on December 27.

A statement said: "On behalf of Steve and Liz and all the staff we would just like to thank everybody who has called, messaged and offered their time to help us with clearing up today after last night's break in.

"We are somewhat overwhelmed by all the kind words and people who have given up their Christmas Eve with their families to come and help today....a huge thank you, it really is appreciated!

We will update everyone on our social media with further information regarding our re-opening as soon as we have it."

They added: "Once again, thanks to everyone who has offered to help us in this difficult and stressful situation.

"It is heartening to see that the local fishing community is really behind their local tackle retailers, and we are extremely grateful to you all.

"We would also like to thank the fellow retailers and companies within the trade who have also sent words of support and offers of help to get us fixed up and trading again... we can't thank you enough!"

In an update following the incident, a spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary told the Echo: they were called at around 10pm.

They added: “It was reported that the premises had been ram-raided, with various items of stock taken and significant damage had been caused to the building.”

They added: “Officers attended the scene to carry out enquiries and an investigation is underway.”
