We're counting down to Christmas in Hampshire with festive treats and days out aplenty.

From Christmas markets to pantomimes and from illuminations to winter trails, there's a Santa's stocking full of advent fun to enjoy.

Here's our pick of the unmissable events for kids this December.

See the big man himself...

Daily Echo: Cosmic Christmas at Winchester Science Centre

Ho, ho, ho, he's on his way!

The big man himself will be taking a break from the toy factory line in Lapland to pay a visit to some of the youngsters on the good list this December.

But he's an extremely busy man and can get rather booked up.

Father Christmas is delighting youngsters at Longdown Activity Farm, while some slots still remain to pay him a visit at Paultons Park.

You can even enjoy a festive paddle on the Beaulieu River in the search for Santa, or see him live in Cosmic Christmas, a live-action immersive space adventure at Winchester Science Centre.

Enjoy the illuminations...

Daily Echo: Glow Marwell returns in 2023

Light trails and experiences have switched on across Hampshire.

After the success of last year's inaugural light trail, Sir Harold Hiller Gardens is once again opening its gates after dark to share the stunning transformation of its 180-acre arboretum site near Romsey by the award winning, Hampshire-based Light Up Trails.

Expect half a million twinkling lights, brand new illuminations, dazzling photo opportunities and interactive elements as Glow Marwell returns for 2023.

The Watercress Line’s Steam Illuminations is returning to the heritage railway this festive season with a special train in operation lit up both inside and out by thousands of LED lights, creating a kaleidoscope of different colours and flashing patterns.

See a panto or Christmas show...

Daily Echo: The cast launch Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Mayflower Theatre's 2023 pantomime

There's plenty of festive fun to be had in theatres across Hampshire.

The biggest panto in the South is Mayflower Theatre's festive offering, the fairest pantomime of them all, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

It stars Britain’s Got Talent winners and street dance sensations Ashley Banjo & Diversity, alongside pantomime legend Christopher Biggins and stand-up comedian Kev Orkian.

Featuring a cast of 50 young people, A Christmas Carol is on at Mast Mayflower Studios. This classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and one eventful night comes brilliantly to life in a new festive musical that will thrill families this Christmas.

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Raymond Briggs' joyful (and at times a bit grumpy!) Father Christmas at The Berry Theatre in Hedge End.

Visit a Christmas market...

Daily Echo: Christmas

Southampton Christmas Market is bigger and better than ever before in 2023 with brilliant rides, selection of festive stalls selling Christmas gifts plus food, drink and entertainment.

The traditional market features individually designed alpine chalets with more than 30 independent stallholders offering a range of hand-made, authentic gifts including candles, clothing and jewellery as well as handcrafted Christmas decorations.

Also enjoy plenty of Christmas magic with a light projection show, high-octane rides and a Christmas Fun House.

Westquay once again hosts a seasonal ice rink.

In Winchester, the market is recognised as one of the best in Europe.

Renowned for its bustling atmosphere, stunning location and handpicked high quality exhibitors, the traditional market attracts visitors from around the world who come to shop at the pretty wooden chalets, situated within the historic grounds of Winchester Cathedral.
