A SOUTHAMPTON-registered company that provided camping facilities at major sporting events has ceased trading, leaving customers hundreds of pounds out of pocket.

People who booked with Camping F1 Ltd fear they will never receive refunds because they were told to pay using Bacs or Cryptocurrency instead of their credit card.

Several sports fans living in the Southampton area are believed to be among those affected.

Customers were devastated to receive an email announcing the company's demise.

It said: "It is with deep regret that we must inform you that Camping F1 Ltd has ceased trading and will no longer be able to provide camping at the British Grand Prix."

Customers want to know why Camping F1 is still listed as "active" on the Companies House website.

One of those affected is Graham Jordan, 69, of Hull, who paid £220 for a three-night stay at a campsite near the race circuit.

He said: "Initially I was concerned as they only accepted Bacs payment or cryptocurrency and joined a Facebook group called Silverstone Camping Guide to see if anyone else was going to camp with them or whether it was a scam.

"Several people said they'd stayed with them in Italy, Spain, and the UK so I agreed to go ahead and book.

"On June 26 we received an e-mail saying Camping F1 had ceased trading and our money was lost.

"They said they'd done a 'special deal' with another campsite. But when I tried to book, the same three nights were offered at £380. I was fortunate to find space on another site for £230."

Scores of people have taken to social media to vent their anger.

One person used the word "devastating", adding: "It describes how all those who have paid hundreds of pounds to camp at upcoming events through f1camping.com feel today.

"The way they make you pay will mean no refunds as all done via bank transfer, not card."

Another customer added: "We had two tents booked. Only last week had an email regarding details of catering etc, so surprised and annoyed to have received the email."

Camping F1 did not respond to a request for comment. Silverstone said it had "no association" with the company.
