A PUB has hosted a fundraiser in memory of a chef who died of cancer.
Rachel Chapman and those at The Two Brothers pub are hosting a family fundraiser today after her husband Chris died last year.
He was a chef at the West End pub but passed away after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Rachel is determined to keep his memory alive and raise vital funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
She said: "We fundraising for pancreatic cancer, but it's not just fundraising as we're trying to raise awareness as well.
"It is the least funded cancer charity and it also has one of the worst survival rates. "I lost my husband at Easter last year, from first symptom to him dying was four months.
"I'm proud of him.
"He never once said 'why me?' or 'it's not fair', the only thing he was worried about was leaving me, my daughter, and the grandchildren behind."
Rachel said that her family has coped with the grief by fundraising for charity.
At their last fundraiser, they raised £10,000, and she is hoping to do the same today.
The pub has live music until midnight tonight as well as a bouncy castle and a raffle.
There is also facepainting and a BBQ for visitors to enjoy.
The event was opened by the Mayor of Southampton Councillor Valerie Laurent at 11.30am this morning.
We managed to raise £10,000 in one day at our last fundraiser," Rachel said.
"We do bits and pieces throughout the year to keep his memory alive.
"We have nine bands playing, face painting, a bouncy castle, raffle, a BBQ, cocktails.
"It would be great to raise another £10k, I think we'll be able to do it."
Team leader at the pub and good friend of Chris, Evan Palmer said: "The community has already jumped on board, and we have had amazing support from bands and artists in and around Hampshire offering up their time to help support this great cause.
“We can’t wait to make this year another success.”
