Here is what the candidates are saying:

James Edward Baillie – Conservatives

“It has been a privilege to be councillor for Sholing – an area that I have lived in for much of my life. A big focus for the last year or so has been working with residents to improve road safety (and quality) at a number of locations. In my day job I am a secondary maths teacher, and am keen to improve the opportunities for our young people.”

Jaden William Beaurain – Conservatives

“Jaden is standing in the local elections to make a difference to the community he knows and cares about. He is particularly interested in implementing policies to help deter anti-social behaviour, and provide opportunities for young people. He thinks it is important to have young people on the council to ensure the whole city is represented. Jaden is always happy to answer residents’ questions, and enjoys door knocking and speaking to residents every week. This is one of the things Jaden is most looking forward to continuing in the coming years: speaking to residents about issues that matter to them.”

Eileen Margaret Bowers – Liberal Democrats

Alex Clifton – Liberal Democrats

David Michael Gower – Greens

- A vote for £1 bus fares

– A vote for clean air

– A vote for decency and integrity in politics

Please give David Gower one of your votes on May 4th.”

Gillian Anne Green – Labour

“I’m a lifelong Sholing resident who has taught in Sholing and other Southampton and Hampshire schools. I am passionate about supporting children with SEN. My ambition is for Sholing to be a family-friendly, safe and green place for people to make their home.”

Benjamin John Hughes – Liberal Democrats

Paul Robert Kenny – Labour

“I’m very concerned about the effect the cost of living crisis is having on our communities and Sholing needs a strong voice on the council. If elected, I’ll fight for better bus services, 20 mph limits, more police and to sort out footpaths and potholes.”

Paul Graham Lewsey – Labour

“I live in Southampton where for many years I worked in social care services and IT. I’ve been involved with community and voluntary groups and as a former councillor spent much of my time talking to local people about what matters most to them.”

Jonathan David Stubbs – Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition

I have lived in Sholing for 33 years now, but originally hail from the Polygon area of the city.

I was invited to stand as a TUSC candidate and see myself as an Independent Green Socialist.

If elected, I am looking forward to aiding in tackling local issues and also supporting the re-nationalisation of essential services/utilities as well as keeping the environment a key focus.

I now work for the University of Southampton and I am also a Qualified Table Tennis Coach and strongly think we need to encourage all sports back into after school clubs and socially.

Sarah Marie Vaughan – Conservatives

“I live in Sholing with my husband and children. As a Sholing councillor, I’ve

served on multiple committees and scrutiny panels. I’m shadow cabinet member for community safety and crime prevention. I carry out voluntary work at Oasis Sholing Food Pantry, I am a trustee and volunteer at SCPA, children’s play schemes during school holidays charity and I’m a Trustee at Thorner’s Homes, an Almshouse for women aged over 55 who are widowed or single living in Southampton. Answering residents’ questions and concerns is a large part of my time and I will always carry out my role to the highest standard.”
