A CURBRIDGE pub will be able to serve more customers safely thanks to a donation from a national builders.
The Horse and Jockey, in Botley Road, was donated of £2,500 worth of timber and fittings in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic from Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties
The contribution will allow the pub continue to safely serve key workers food, enabling it to add a much-needed large wooden canopy roof to its beer garden.
Over the past month the pub has teamed up with local butcher Billy Owton to serve free meals to the NHS, police and fire service from its premises which is closed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Volunteer chefs cook hot meals each evening which key workers can stop by between the hours of 5pm-9pm to collect safely from the pub.
Co-Owner Tony Lynam said: “When the outbreak first began, I really thought about how we could help in a voluntary capacity. I wanted to do something practical for key workers and luckily came up with the idea of serving free meals to pick up from the Horse & Jockey.
“I have to thank our partners for helping us to do this and of course our volunteer chefs and support teams including Charlys Angels who have been fantastic.”
He continued: “This donation from Taylor Wimpey will allow us to add a considerable canopy roof to our beer garden and we want to say a huge thank you to the homebuilder for this contribution.”
Roz Wells, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties, added: “We’re so pleased to be able to offer our help with a donation and felt it was the right thing to do considering the pub’s fantastic effort during the pandemic.”
